Rich Taylor of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is a pilot for American Airlines and has flown all kinds of aircraft, from single-seaters to wide-body planes carrying up to 300 passengers. Currently captaining the airbus A330 to destinations throughout Europe,
Rich is equally passionate about boating.
“As a pilot flying high-performance jets, I understand the need to reduce parasitic drag. Because you don’t want parasites hanging around on your boat—you know, unless they’re really attractive,” he jokes.
Rich is serious about boating, however, a hobby he got into when he was just 12 years old, the same summer he began taking flying lessons with his father, a former air force pilot. He first used Propspeed on a 41-foot sailboat that he cruised around the western Caribbean, Florida and the Bahamas between 1997 and 2010.
Four years ago, he bought his current boat, a 39-foot Tiara Sovran with Volvo Penta IPS diesel engines. Joystick-control pod drives and two forward-facing, counter-rotating props complete the setup. “Propspeed was a no-brainer,” he says. “A
clean prop is essential for maximum performance and efficiency on any boat. I had used bottom paint on previous props, but it wore off fairly quickly.”
On the recommendation of a marine repair specialist friend who handled his boat’s maintenance, Rich first used Propspeed in 1999 and found it particularly beneficial in protecting the underwater metal surfaces of his pods.
