Oceanmax will be at the 48th Newport International Boat Show at the Newport Yachting Center, spanning 13 acres of downtown waterfront along America’s Cup Avenue. Visit Keith at tent G, booth 67 to learn more about the world’s best foul-release system and be entered to win one of four bottles of Gosling’s rum.

One of the largest in-water shows in the U.S. and the unofficial kickoff the boat show season, the Newport International Boat Show is an annual consumer event that draws thousands of boat owners as well as boatyards.

“For Oceanmax, the show’s purpose is twofold: It’s for us to meet customers and it’s also good to meet the boatyards. We have the guy, or gal, who owns the boat and the people who are applying the product, so you have the opportunity to meet both the end user and the applicator.”

The show is handily placed in Keith’s own stomping ground—he lives about a mile away—as well as his sales territory. “Just where we are, we’re surrounded by four or five boatyards who actually use our product. Yards from Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut are all represented at the show. I’ve been going to the show for years, but this is my second time having a booth there.”

Asked if there’s any home-court advantage, Keith says, “Being close is nice because I can stay in my own house every night!” Reverting to business mode, he adds, “Actually, it’s a great show and it’s great for the community as a whole. It’s good to see all the customers I deal with on a daily basis in one location.”

While certainly Eastern Seaboard–focused, as its name suggests, the Newport International Boat Show features exhibitors from around the world who’ll be presenting new powerboats and sailboats of every type and style plus a variety of accessories, equipment, electronics and services for boaters. New in 2018 is the Newport For New Products (NFNP) Awards, showcasing boats and boating products making their U.S. debut, with categories including best “green” product and People’s Choice for best new boat.

Also featured is an education series of in-water courses, seminars and demonstrations designed to offer attendees of all skill levels a variety of experiences that complement the boats and boating gear on display. “We want the Newport International Boat Show to be a completely immersive experience for show-goers,” says show director Nancy Piffard. “This year, visitors will have the opportunity to attend free seminars created ‘For Boaters, By Boaters’ presented by America’s Boating Club.” Topics include anchoring techniques, using radar and marine radio, and how to read the weather.

Paid offerings include the Confident Captains at the Helm series, where attendees receive hands-on instruction from a USCG-licensed captain, learning powerboat and sailboat handling skills.
